Hockeytown USA

Just got back from Detroit and Chicago and holy moly it was fun...

My wonderful gf got us tickets to the Redwings/Ducks game, two teams that hate each other and with Detroit fighting for a playoff position it was always going to be amazing... oh and not just any tickets.. away team blue line, row THREE!!! yes... three. if it wasn't for the glass i could have tapped Datsyuk on the shoulder! Chris Chelios got an award for being the longest serving American player in the NHL (still playing at one of the best teams in the world at 45, not a bad achievement!). Game ended 1-0 to the wings which may not sound all that impressive but it was a real battle, with Lilja getting in a rumble. Check out the pictures (Not great quality as were taken on my phone and the game is pretty rapid!). I of course wore our team jersey for a photo and you'll note my Gf is also sporting a Madness Polo.

Also of note: after spending all day saying how much chicago looks like gotham city i ended up sitting adjacent to Michael Keaton in a restaurant!!! how random is that!!??!!!

Re: Hockeytown USA

yeah, had other things to do... like visit every hockey store in detroit. also am proud to say that i managed to put on a whole stone in two weeks!!! might have something to do with my eating the "pounder" at "cheeburger cheeburger" (www.cheeburgercheeburger.com check out the menu  picture!!!) a quality establishment that serves the biggest burgers you ever saw.. i seriously could barely hold it. My picture however is on the wall to prove i am a master glutton.

still after two weeks of eating nothing but huge hunks of meat and drinking my weight in strange beers (one of which came out of a tap shaped like a canoe!!) i have a lot of running and skating ahead of me to get back to the svelt supermodel-esque guy you all know me as wink

Oh and warren/damon was inspired by an advert out there: http://www.garrettspecialties.com/conte … -1367.html
madness watches anyone????

or in fact this company makes just about anything you want with the logo on it... there must be a UK version...

Re: Hockeytown USA

Just wanted to add...

if ever anyone is stuck for an american city to visit... choose chicago.

it is amazing. awesome skyline, a lot of it looks like Gotham, has some weird and wonderful monuments (a giant mirror coated coffee bean and two huge carparks that look like corn on the cob being two of many).
friendly cabbies, reasonably cheap, good public transportation system (a tube line that makes sense!!! the city is laid out like a grid, you want that restaurant near where state street intersects monroe street? well the station is called "state/monroe"!!! not "leicester square" which could be on any roads.

it's all also damn cheap, a taxi from one end to the other costs about $7/£3.50, the tube/bus system is ludicrously cheap (like £1 a journey) and the airport is only 25 minutes from the centre on the orange line.

the United Centre (Home of Rutuu, Lalime and Khabibulin) where the blackhawks play is about 15 minutes out. tickets go from $10 - $250 (£5 - £125). Also of note is the Sears Tower, if anyone saw Ferris Beuller's Day Off, it's the building they look down from (i did it too) and you should DEFINITELY go up there if it's a nice clear day.

if you do go you and you want to treat yourself a bit you should eat at the bluewater
restaurant near the state and grand cross-section. my girlfriend took me there because it's a bit of a celebrity hang-out. it's a little bit pricier than some of the others (but still cheap by london standards!) but it's awesome food (I had the Mahi-Mahi) and you might even spot batman there!!! If you do go, try and get served by Marianna's friend Britney cause she's lovely (but don't forget you have to tip at LEAST 15% in that country!!!).

anyway.. that's my bit for the tourist board.

Re: Hockeytown USA

Definitely appreciate the update mate, even if I am jealous, its always nice to get a report back of hockey in another town.

Remember to put up the pick of the Madness shirt in a random location (need to start this off again)
